Tentative
Agreement Summary & Ballot Instructions
The Tentative Agreement Summary
& Contract Language Booklet has been mailed and should arrive at your
home this week. With the booklet, look for the letter from Pat Friend,
AFA International President, explaining balloting procedures.
As a reminder, only active
(i.e., dues paying) Members in Good Standing on the count date will be
eligible to vote on this tentative agreement. If you are on a Leave of
Absence or Voluntary Furlough beyond 90 days, you must continue to pay
dues in order to remain active and be eligible to vote. Any outstanding
dues must be paid before the count date for your vote to be counted.
As has been discussed at
the Roadshows, this ratification vote is being conducted by electronic
ballot using either the internet or touch tone telephone, your choice.
Once you have voted, you may change your vote by either method during the
polling period. Only the last ballot you cast will be counted.
If you experience any problems
with the voting system or if you have questions regarding your eligibility
to vote, please call AFA Membership Services at 800-424-2401 x 860 during
regular business hours.
Polls open: 12:01 am EDT,
July 28, 2002.
Polls close: 5:00 pm EDT,
August 9, 2002
The ballots will be counted
after the close of polls.
Please carefully follow the
instructions contained in Pat Friend's letter to have your vote count.
Most importantly, as Pat
writes, "Please excercise your right as a member of our union and partcipate
in the process."

US AIRWAYS
ANNOUNCES MARKETING AGREEMENT WITH UNITED AIRLINES
ARLINGTON, Va., July 24,
2002 -- US Airways President and CEO David Siegel today announced that
US Airways has reached an agreement on a marketing alliance with United
Airlines. Since receiving conditional approval for a federal loan guarantee
and reaching tentative agreements with several employee groups, the code
sharing agreement is the latest of several steps the airline has taken
to implement a financial restructuring and new business plan.
"A marketing agreement has
always been a vital piece of our plan, and it was a key component of the
loan guarantee application conditionally approved by the Air Transportation
Stabilization Board," said Siegel. "Finalizing labor agreements and negotiating
with lenders and lessors remain the critical elements of our restructuring,
while this alliance will provide our airline with the revenue and marketing
enhancements that are already enjoyed by our competitors."
Siegel said that he could
not predict when US Airways' restructuring efforts would be concluded,
but that the agreement takes into account either a negotiated restructuring
of US Airways or one supervised under a Chapter 11 filing.
The marketing alliance will
include a code-share partnership and frequent flyer cooperation.
