AFA US Airways MEC E-Line for July 18x, 2003

In this E-Line
  • VF7

Please note the duration of these furloughs and be advised if you are awarded the VF 7 you are signing a contract for this duration. You will not be permitted to return early under any voluntary circumstance.

Subject: Voluntary Furlough 7 (VF7)

Our staffing forecast reflects an overage of approximately 170 flight attendants beginning in September 2003. In hopes of offsetting potential involuntary furloughs, we will offer another voluntary furlough program (VF7). As the quarterly earnings reports from our competitors this week have demonstrated, the industry continues to struggle towards a recovery, but it will be a lengthy and extended process. Our goal is to ensure we are a survivor in the short-term, and position for our airline for growth in the future as the economy strengthens. Application forms will be available in the crew rooms and on theHub and HERE. The form must be submitted to Inflight Administration in Crystal City. In addition to the normal submission channels, you are able to submit your request electronically via theHub. The form will be available on theHub effective July 21, 2003. The deadline for

Inflight Administration to receive the form is Noon (EDT) July 27, 2003. Please ensure you are using the correct updated form. It states 2003 Voluntary Furlough 7 (VF7) Program Request Form on the top of it.

Here are some highlights of the Voluntary Furlough 7 Agreement:

** Scheduled to commence September 1, 2003

** Duration choices of VF7:

21 Month VF7 beginning September 1, 2003 and ending June 1, 2005

27 Month VF7 beginning September 1, 2003 and ending Dec 1, 2005

** Must be in an active and available status at the beginning of voluntary furlough

** Unlimited on-line travel privileges for eligible family members, except for companion passes and registered companions, for up to 24 months.

** Continued current group health and welfare benefits for first

90 days of voluntary furlough.

** Sick bank and vacation day(s) accrual the month of September 2003 only.

** Continued seniority and longevity accrual.

** May retire with benefits from a voluntary furlough status.

** No entitlement to furlough pay if awarded a voluntary furlough.

** US Airways will not contest unemployment claims for flight attendants participating in VF7.

Please note: The awarding of VF7 could lead to base imbalances and displacements. The bid will NOT be reopened for flight attendants displaced as a result of the award.
