Dear Members,

The following are examples of back-end trip improving with new Sat/Sun AIL restrictions/ Weekend Trip Improving sections of our new ratified agreement effective 1/31/05:

1.  A Flight Attendant has a trip that works Fri., Sat., Sun., and Mon.  He/she contact crew scheduling the day prior to trip origination and request that he/she not be required to fly on Fri.  If crew scheduling has sufficient coverage, he/she will not have to originate a trip on Fri., but will have to originate a trip on Sat.  He/she can fly a one-day on Sat., but would also be required to originate another trip on Sun.

2.  In the previous example, after the Flight Attendant  was allowed to back-end trip improve off of Fri., he/she could again contact crew scheduling on Fri. and request that he/she not be required to fly on Sat.  If crew scheduling had sufficient coverage, he/she would not be required to originate a trip on Sat., but would be required to originate a trip on Sun.

3.  If a Flight Attendant has a trip that works on Fri., Sat., and Sun., he/she can go on the AIL and work a one-day on Fri., or a two-day on Fri.  In the first example, the flight attendant would automatically be placed on the AIL by the crew scheduling for a trip that originates on Sat.  In the second example, the f/a would automatically be placed on the AIL by crew scheduling for a trip that originates on Sun.

4.  If a Flight Attendant has a trip that works Fri., Sat., and Sun. and contacts crew scheduling and asks to TWOP that trip and subsequently, such request is granted by crew scheduling, he/she has no obligation to work any of the days of that trip, including Sat. and Sun.

This provision does not restrict the Flight Attendant from the dropping of his/her weekend trips while participating in SAP, drops for option/overprojection in SAP (until eliminated) or trip trades with other flight attendants.

This provision only applies to trip improving with AIL.  When trip improving on Saturday and/or Sunday a Flight Attendant is responsible for touching all weekend days that are in his/her line.

The following went out on a company CBS message reflecting the new ratified provision regarding Vacation and Deadhead time:

DH/VAC - Effective Date:  1/31/05

The following changes will occur:

  • Vacation rates will be recalculated with the new daily rates effective January 31, 2005.  This rate change will be reflected in CATCREW by 1800 on January 24, 2005.

  • Effective January 31, 2005 all deadhead time will be compensated at 50% pay no credit.  In CATCREW deadhead pay will be recalculated to reflect this change.  All deadhead pay no credit will be displayed on the pay summary screen (Option 5).  All other screens in CATs will display pay & credit only.

You will also see 100% deadhead time on your Flight Pay report, however the deadhead time will be paid at 50% of your base rate of pay.

You will need to take this change into consideration when projecting your pay and credit time when utilizing AIL for the February bid month and March SAP.

Commencing will the April published pairings and lines the deadhead time will be printed in the "DHD" field and not credited to the "PAY" field. The company is currently working on changes to the pairing & line packets to enable them to print the pay no credit values.

Effective with Secondary Lines construction for March 2005, there will be no restriction on the amount of open time positions at the start of the month. This will eliminate the current 10% floor.
