5 HOUR INCREASE FOR APRIL - ANOTHER MORALE BOOSTER

Due to "staffing deficits" the Company has increased the flying obligation by five hours for the month of April in BOS, CLT, DCA and PHL. The increase is not in effect in PIT, LGA, PHW or CLW. The Company staffing model was explained by Rob Fuhr, Director of Crew Scheduling, and posted in an MEC E-line earlier this month. The article can be read here: www.afausairways.org/Eline/feb21xx_05.htm.

AFA does not agree with the methodology of the staffing model. AFA believes the model does not correctly reflect the "supply" side thus leading the Company to believe they are operating with deficit staffing levels.

Furthermore AFA does not believe any contractual language exists allowing the Company to impose a five hour increase prior to a month beginning nor can an increase be imposed based on "staffing deficits" at any time. New language exists that will allow the Company to increase the flying obligation within a month due to irregular operations only.

AFA does not believe the increase is needed however the remedy is illusive as the grievance process is time consuming. AFA will continue try to impress on the Company that the imposed five hour increase does more harm than good.
