"How will my stock award be reflected on my W-2?

Your stock award appears as regular earnings on your W-2 and the taxes withheld are included in the totals in the appropriate tax withholding boxes.

How can I find out the detail on my stock award and the taxes associated with it?

In early December E*Trade sent out "Confirmation of Release" forms to all participants. This document provides detail on the number of shares that vested, the number of shares withheld to cover your withholding obligation, and the net number of shares that were deposited to your E*Trade account. It also provides information on the various taxes that were paid. You can request a duplicate of this form by calling E*trade at 800-838-0908.

What is a 1099?

A 1099 is a federal income tax form on which certain types of income are reported to the federal government and to the individual that earned the income. A broker issues a 1099 when stock is sold. If you sold any stock through E*Trade you will receive a 1099 from E*Trade recording the transaction. You should consult a tax advisor as to the proper reporting of this information when you file your income taxes."

If you have questions regarding the stock you received in 2003 and how that sale may have tax implications, please click on the following link to theHub:

As always, any specific tax questions should be directed to your tax accountant.
