Voluntary Furlough 4 (VF4)
In order to align our flight attendant staffing so that it is consistent with the reductions announced in November 2002, we will reduce flight attendant headcount by 112 flight attendants effective March 2, 2003. This number is a result of the
previously announced changes to coach class hot meal transcon service on the 767 and A319.
Our goal is to achieve this reduction by offering Voluntary Furloughs with durations between 9 and 33 months. We will call this program Voluntary Furlough 4 or VF4. It is similar to the last Voluntary Furlough 3 Program (VF3).
Application forms are available HERE
(http://www.afausairways.org/furlough/VF4_app.pdf), in the crew rooms and on theHub. The form must be submitted to Inflight Administration in Crystal City. The deadline for Inflight Administration to receive the form is Noon (EST) February 12, 2003. Please ensure you are using the correct updated form. It states "2003 Voluntary Furlough 4 (VF4) Program Request Form" on the top of it.
Here are some highlights of the Voluntary Furlough 4 Agreement:
** Scheduled to commence March 2, 2003
** Duration choices of VF4:
9 Months VF4 beginning Mar 2, 2003 and ending Dec 1, 2003

21 Months VF4 beginning Mar 2, 2003 and ending Dec 1, 2004
27 Months VF4 beginning Mar 2, 2003 and ending May 31, 2005
33 Months VF4 beginning Mar 2, 2003 and ending Dec 1, 2005

** Unlimited on-line travel privileges for eligible family members, except for companion passes
** Continued current group health and welfare benefits for first 120 days of voluntary furlough
** Sick bank and vacation day(s) accrual the month of March 2003 only
** Continued seniority and longevity accrual
** May retire with benefits from a voluntary furlough status
** No entitlement to furlough pay if awarded a voluntary furlough
Voluntary furlough flight attendants who have a balance of less than $5,000 in the US Airways, Inc. 401(k) Savings Plan, will be required to take a distribution of Plan funds. You may be able to defer payment of taxes if you roll your distribution over into another qualified vehicle such as an IRA. The Fidelity Service Center for US Airways will send distribution information to all Plan participants after March 2, 2003. You will receive similar distribution information if you have a balance of less than $5,000 in the ESOP. Fidelity will send information on the ESOP in April 2003. If you have an outstanding 401(k) loan, you will continue to be responsible for making timely loan payments in order to avoid loan default and associated tax penalties. Contact the Fidelity Service Center for US Airways at (800) 354-3412 to make necessary payment arrangements.

Your last VF3 Paycheck and Vacation Payout
Each VF3 F/A received a letter from the company, via US Mail stating that those that requested vacation pay out would receive their last company paycheck on Feb. 15th, 2003. Those that did not request vacation pay out would receive their last pay check on January 30th 2003.
A mistake was made by the company. Due to the fact that the 30th paycheck is an "advance", those f/a's that did not request vacation pay out and were expecting a paycheck on the 30th, did not have enough hours in to actually qualify for a paycheck. They will receive their paychecks on February 15, 2003.
