Dear Members,

At a press conference today at Washington National Airport, Congressmen Edward Markey (D-MA) and Joseph Crowley (D-NY) along with Pat Friend, International President of the Association of Flight Attendants, unveiled a new website for flight attendants and the public to tell the Transportation Security Administration to stop putting flight attendants and passengers at risk.

Confiscated items by the TSAThe website is www.leaveallbladesbehind.com and is a new tool to tell TSA and Congress that it is wrong to put flight attendants and passengers at risk because they can not focus on more than one task at a time. The Director of TSA, Kip Hawley, has stated that they (the TSA) need to focus on keeping explosives off commercial flights. We could not agree more but not at the expense of the safety of those in the aircraft cabin. It should not be one or the other but both.

What would be ideal is for the TSA to voluntarily stop these proposed changes before December 22nd when they are scheduled to go into effect but it appears that congressional action will be needed to stop these changes.

Please take a minute to sign the petition at www.leaveallbladesbehind.com and encourage your family and friends to do so as well. This is not a petition only for AFA members but their families and everyone who flies. Also encourage your friends at other airlines to sign on as well. We are all in this together.

Also, please take the time to encourage your representatives to co-sponsor HR 4452 "The Leave All Blades Behind Act" currently before the House of Representatives.

If you have any questions, please contact your local AFA representative.

In Solidarity,

Your MEC and
Alin Boswell
LEC President, DCA
