Raising Your 401K Contributions to the Maximum Amount

In our last negotiations, we negotiated for and won the ability to contribute up to 22% to our 401K's. If you are now contributing 12% or less, of your pre-tax earnings to the 401K and in December, you came into some extra money that would allow you to fully fund the 401K up to the max of 22%, you would now have the ability to make up the difference between the 12% and the 22% allowed. The difference is, the initial 12% contribution was pre-tax, and the remaining 10% would be an after tax contribution.

The company has not put anything out to the Flight Attendants, so the MEC Vice President contacted Fidelity at 1-800-354-3412. Fidelity is set up to answer any inquiries that employees may have about this negotiated item, and to make the necessary adjustments. Or, you can go on-line at http://www.401K.com and set up your own 401K options. You will need your social security number and a personal pin number to make any changes.

If you are a Flight Attendant that wants to fully fund your 401K accounts by the years end, the time is running out to make these contributions for the year (2002). These changes sometimes take several weeks to complete.

Please contact Fidelity at 1-800-354-3412 or visit http://www.401K.com.

MEC Response to Retirement Systems of Alabama (RSA)

"As we are sure many of you have heard by now, the CEO or RSA (Retirement Systems of Alabama), Mr. David Bronner has gone to the press and threatened the employees of USAirways with liquidation. Mr. Bronner was quoted regarding his opinion of where labor stands at the airline: "What's their alternative? If they don't want to do this, we'll Chapter 7 it." He sounds like a real charmer, a real-people person concerned about the employees of our airline. It is somewhat ironic that this man who heads the RSA wants to rape the pensions plans of the employees at USAirways. One of the things Mr. Bronner gets after we emerge from bankruptcy is seven seats on our Board of Directors. I guess what we are seeing from him now is what we can expect to see from him in the future. We can expect that anytime the airline needs money they will go after the employees of the airline.

We have not entered into any discussions with the Company at this time. We have advised the Company that once they have reached agreements with the other employee groups and when management has agreed to additional cuts we will then be willing to discuss productivity improvements in exchange for wage returns as outlined in the Restructuring Agreement reached earlier this year. We will update you as soon as additional information becomes available."
