MEC
Vacancies
MEC President Karen Lascoli
and MEC Vice-President Joanne Trihey tendered their resignations August
16. Their resignations were accepted by the MEC at a special meeting held
at the International office August 23. In accordance with the Constitution
and By-laws these vacancies have been posted. There will be a special meeting
to elect new officers September 3 at 1330 in Pittsburgh, at the Holiday
Inn Airport. Interested candidates can find an application online HERE.
All candidates are encouraged to attend the special meeting and will have
the opportunity to be interviewed. In the interim, Leslie Miller, current
MEC Secretary/Treasurer is acting MEC President.
In addition we have vacancies
on System Board and LTD Board. One permanent member for each board and
one alternate member for each board. You can find the qualifications and
application on our website. These positions will be filled at the regular
MEC meeting on September 4.
No Furlough
Numbers Yet
The company has not yet
announced furlough numbers. Once they do, both voluntary and involuntary
will commence on December 2, 2002. There will be VPLOA’s offered in some
domiciles for the month of November as well.
VSIP
Members of the MEC will
be meeting with the company on Wednesday of this week to discuss the Voluntary
Separation Incentive Package. Details of the VSIP and Voluntary Furlough
will be released as soon as possible.
AFA Granted
Ex-Officio Status
AFA was granted ex-officio
status last week on the bankruptcy creditors board. This means our attorneys
will be present at all hearings. They will have a voice but will not be
able to vote, unlike ALPA and IAM who have a seat on the 13- member board.
The MEC has instructed our attorneys to challenge the 6 Million dollar
bonuses the company is asking the courts to release. These bonuses are
for approximately 500 Senior Management employees for their 2001 personal
performance reviews. The final decision will be up to the bankruptcy Judge.
MEC
Meeting
Our regular MEC meeting begins
September 4-6 at the Holiday Inn in Pittsburgh at 1300. The MEC has invited
US Airways President Dave Siegel to our meeting. He will be addressing
the MEC from 0900-1030 on Friday, September 6. All members in good standing
our encouraged to attend. The Holiday Inn (412-262-3600) provides transportation
from the airport.
Publishing
of RON Hotels
Recently an update was posted
about the LGA short RON. The name of the hotel was deliberately omitted
for security reasons; the AFA website and the E-line are not secured websites.
Crew Accommodation Reports and Updates that contain the names of our properties
are posted in the crewrooms on the LEC Union Board. This will continue
until the websites become secured.
FCO RON
The Committee would like
those of you overnighting in FCO to provide us with your feedback about
the hotel. USE THIS
ONLINE FORM. As of August 12th, we are back in the originally
scheduled property. Both AFA and the Company were told by the property
that several improvements were made, including the air-conditioning system.
For months now, this property had presented numerous problems and we are
interested in hearing whether these issues were addressed. Your feedback
will then be presented to the Company and it can be determined whether
a site inspection is still necessary. The Committee thanks you in advance
for your time.
