Dear Members,

CLARIFICATION ON BOARDING TIMES FOR EAST CREWS

On August 7, 2009, the company posted a Must Read (09-162), which is posted on the Inflight Services section on both the Hub and Wings, regarding Crewmember Boarding Times.  This Must Read refers to boarding times that apply to PHX and LAS-based flight attendants ONLY.  While the link to this Must Read does indicate that this is for PHX and LAS-based flight attendants only, the actual Must Read does not.  We have already received one report in which station personnel used this Must Read to get an East crew to board early because the flight was full. Again, this Must Read is for PHX and LAS-based flight attendants ONLY and should any agent/supervisor/manager try to get you to board early by showing you this Must Read, explain that it does not apply to you.  Please report any incidents to your local council office.

The Must Read refers to a West Flight Attendant agreement that allows the agents to board a West Airbus 319/320 or Boeing 737 35 minutes prior to departure if the PBT is at capacity or higher.   That agreement does not apply to East crews on East metal.

The following contract language applies to all East Flight Attendants: (Section 10.I. on page 10-9)

On-Board Requirements

A flight attendant will be required to be on board the aircraft ready to receive passengers thirty (:30) minutes prior to scheduled departure, with the following exceptions:

1. On a domestic departure on an aircraft of one hundred sixty-five (165) or more passenger seats, a flight attendant will be required to be on board the aircraft ready to receive passengers thirty-five (:35) minutes prior to scheduled departure.

2. On an international departure a flight attendant will be required to be on board the aircraft ready to receive passengers forty-five (:45) minutes prior to scheduled departure.

Thank you,

Mike Flores, President
