Dear Members,
SECURITY UPDATE
The most recent information from both the Company and the TSA indicate that all crew members in uniform are exempt from the no liquid, gel or cream ban at all domestic airports. At domestic airports passengers are required to remove their shoes and pass them through the screening machines. Crew members may be asked to do the same. If you encounter different rules please notify crew scheduling so the information can be disseminated to others.
The threat level in the United Kingdom remains at the British Government's equivalent of the TSA Code Red. For all flights departing the UK, no baggage is allowed to be brought onboard by EITHER PASSENGERS OR CREW MEMBERS. The affected US Airways UK stations include LGW, MAN and GLA. Crew members are being provided basic RON kits at these stations and all baggage must be checked by crew members on flights returning to the United States.
US Airways and the TSA are advising the items listed below may be carried on by passengers and crew members on flights departing the UK but must be in a clear plastic bag. The accepted items include:
-
Pocket sized wallets and purses including their contents (money, credit cards, identity cards but not handbags)
-
Travel documents essential for the journey (tickets, passports and visas)
-
Prescription medicines and medical items sufficient and essential for the flight. Any liquid medication must be verified as authentic.
-
Eyeglasses and sunglasses but no cases
-
Contact lens holders without bottles of solution
-
Female sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight if unboxed
-
Tissues if unboxed and/or handkerchiefs
-
Keys but no electric key fobs
Flight Attendants are also allowed to carry their emergency manuals and IDs.
For flights departing the US bound for the UK carry on bags are permitted for passengers and crew but may be subjected to additional screening at the gate.
At other International airports crew members are being subjected to random searches and in some cases have had liquid items confiscated. The Company is working with individual stations to assist crew members but at this time has not issued any policy or additional requirements for our crews flying to International stations outside the UK.
For all flights, International and Domestic, passengers are not allowed to bring onboard any banned items purchased inside the sterile area. Any such items must be consumed or disposed of prior to boarding. It is the responsibility of the agents boarding the flight to insure this is complied with. The earlier Company directive requiring Flight Attendants to confiscate prohibited items has been rescinded. Flight Attendants are to follow established procedures if they witness a passenger with a prohibited item. Those procedures include notifying the Captain, the gate agent and/or a Ground Security Coordinator (GSC).
As always Flight Attendants will continue to be vigilant in monitoring the cabin at all times.
Thank you,
The MEC
