Security Procedure Modification

Dear Members,
Credit must also be given!
The MEC Eline regarding the modification of
Security Procedures may have given some the impression that only the East MEC
was involved in changing the Company's stance. AWA MEC President, Gary
Richardson, and I took part in a conference call with the Company this morning
regarding the Company's original new directive. We both vehemently stood up for
all of our members and told the Company neither of us would allow any Flight
Attendants to be put in the position of confiscating prohibited items. We both
told the Company there were existing procedures in place to deal with security
breaches and we would instruct all Flight Attendants to follow those accepted
procedures rather than the Company's new policy. Gary and I succeeded, and the
Company has modified their policy to follow our existing procedures.
Thank you,
Mike Flores, President
US Airways MEC AFA-CWA

SUBJECT: Security Procedure Modification
Yesterday, August 10, 2006, information was provided regarding the heightened security measures that impacted the flight attendant group. In this message, flight attendants that encountered liquids or gels brought on board the aircraft were asked to confiscate them and alert the captain in command.
With the ambiguous interpretation of the words liquids/gels and after further consideration, the procedures have been modified.
All flight attendants must monitor the cabin throughout the boarding process; stay alert for suspicious/unusual activities or items. If unusual or suspicious items are found, notify the ground personnel, a GSC or the Captain.
