MEC
Special Meeting Concluded
The Special Meeting of your
AFA US Airways Master Executive Council ended on April 19. Through the
course of the meeting, MEC members got a status report on the industry
and an independent view of the finances and future for our airline.
We heard from industry analyst
and consultant Bill Swelbar of Eclat Consulting, AFA Associate General
Counsel Ed Gilmartin, and AFA Manager of Collective Bargaining Clare Burt.
The MEC also discussed conducting a Wilson Center Survey, but concluded
that a survey should not be conducted at this time.
The latest round of earnings
reports last week brought another wave of speculation by Wall Street and
comments by CEO Siegel about the possibility of US Airways applying for
a government secured loan. Since the White House has mandated that labor
costs for airlines applying for the loans be controlled or even reduced,
we are monitoring this possibility closely.
The information we received
in our MEC meeting gave us a good understanding of where other carriers
are in terms of finances, the possibility of applying for the loans, and
whether or not any discussions of labor cost reductions have begun at other
airlines.
US Airways told your MEC
that it will unveil its new business plan in early May. We plan to review
that plan closely and make the flight attendant voices heard once we know
where current management plans to take this airline in the future.
Please stay informed and
look for future updates.

More on Fingerprinting
Those on Voluntary Furlough
can wait to do the fingerprinting process until their return to the line.
We recommend that you contact your supervisor at least three months before
your return as the finger printing results take approximately 5 weeks to
come back to the company.
A correction to the E-line
information of April 20, 2002: If you decide to have your fingerprinting
done this year; the deadline is December 6, 2002. |
