Dear Council 41 Members,

Many of you may know by now that the America West MEC has submitted an agenda item to change the Constitution and Bylaws of AFA Merger policy to basically eliminate the date of hire provision.

I am currently attending the CWA Convention in Chicago and have had many opportunities to talk to many of the members of the Board of Directors (BOD) for AFA. It would require a 2/3 vote of the to change the policy. From what we have been hearing at the convention I believe the issue will be "Dead on Arrival" at the BOD.

Over the last couple of years the Company has rolled back our wages, benefits, work rules and pensions to almost poverty levels. The one thing they can not get their hands on was date of hire. I certainly will not stand by and allow MY UNION to take this away from you. It is really all we have that is ours.

I will keep you informed of any changes surrounding this agenda item and will follow with a newsletter when I arrive back in Washington following the convention.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call or send one of your officers an email about this important issue.

In Solidarity,

Alin Boswell
