| Dear
Council 41 Members,
Special MEC Meeting
To the Washington Flight Attendants:
On August 2, 2005 the LEC Presidents of Council 41 (Washington), Council 69 (Charlotte) and Council 70 (Philadelphia) called for a special meeting of the Master Executive Council. The meeting will be held August 5, 2005 at the AFA-CWA International Office here in Washington DC. The only item on the Agenda for this meeting is the recall of the MEC President.
The constitution and by-laws of AFA dictate the creation of a merger committee to negotiate a combined working agreement between the merging AFA carriers. An elected representative from each airline, Carol Austin from US Airways, and Bill McGlashen from America West, as well as the MEC presidents of each airline, Teddy Xidas from US Airways and Bill Lehman from America west will each sit on the merger committee. The first meeting will be held at the end of August.
The current MEC President has opted to take the VFLR and was awarded a separation date of December 1, 2005. The Local Executive Council, 41 DCA, has heard many concerns from local members of a flight attendant in negotiations with a known separation date from the Company. Others have stated that this is about personality conflicts; nothing could be further from the truth. This is about having a long term goal for a better contract and life for the flight attendants. Your LEC believes that it is in the best interest of the flight attendants to have a consistent negotiating committee and a MEC President who have a vested interest in the long term viability of the new carrier and the flight attendant group.
In Solidarity,
Alin Boswell
