Board of Directors Meeting
This week, I and Steve Schembs will be attending the AFA Board of Directors (BOD) meeting in Palm Springs, CA. One of the major issues facing the BOD is the agenda item brought forward by the America West MEC to disregard the current AFA Merger Policy regarding the Date of Hire procedure for the merger of two AFA carriers. The agenda item is scheduled be considered before the BOD on October 19 and the outcome will be posted as soon as there is some resolution to the agenda item via eline. Please note that your Master Executive Council is committed to preserving the current policy as it has stood for nearly two decades. Calling All Reserves!
Currently Scheduling calls reserves at 1500 the day before you are scheduled to go "on call" as a courtesy. Unfortunately there has been some confusion about when a reserve should and should not be available for a call from Scheduling. I need to hear from our reserves if they would like the policy to stand as is or would you like to see a change? One thing to understand is that if the "courtesy call" was to go away and there still were future trips to be covered, you would be called after you come on duty, which would be after midnight. As always there is a trade off, do you want Scheduling to call you in the afternoon with available trips or wait until you officially go on call at midnight? I wait to hear from our reserve flight attendants about what they are looking for as a possible resolution.
