AFA policies, budgets and
dues levels are set by AFA's
dedemocratically - elected
flight attendants. All AFA officers
are flight attendants. Copies
of financial reports and the AFA
Constitution and Bylaws
are available to every member upon
request from their local
representives.
The Local Council
All flight attendants working
for the same airline and
assigned to the same domicile
form the Local Council. They
elect by majority vote the
officers to the Local Executive
Council: The President,
Vice President and Secretary. Their
term of office is three
(3) years.
There is no salary paid to local union
officers.
Local officers are flight
attendant volunteers that give of
their free time to represent
the flight attendants at their
domiciles. Although these
officers are permitted to recover
some flight pay lost while
doing union business, they often
times lose monies on duty-time
and perdiem. On establiched
carriers, AFA has been successful
in getting the company to
pay a percentage of "flight
pay loss" in order that your dues
dollars do not have to cover
the total cost. Our Council 41
receivesforty (45) hours
of company paid flight pay loss
each month. These 45 hours
are used to cover the necessary
man hours in the administration
of Council business. Both
Pittsburgh and Charlotte
receive a total of ninty-five (95)
hours of company paid flight
pay loss, as does the MEC
President.
