AFA Congressional Hero

 Senator Barbara Mikulski, Democrat from Maryland, has been a consistent supporter of Flight Attendant issues and rights during her time first in the U.S. House of Representatives and now in the U.S. Senate. She understands our role of providing safety and security onboard the aircraft and has joined our fight to make our skies safer and more secure. AFA-CWA is proud to call Senator Mikulski a friend.

The people of Maryland elected Barbara Mikulski to be their United States Senator because she's been a proven fighter for the working women and men of Maryland and the whole country. 

She looks out for the day-to-day needs of Marylanders and the long range needs of the nation. A fiery and passionate speaker, Senator Mikulski is someone you want on your side and someone we are forever grateful to have on our side.

She is also leader on women's health. Senator Mikulski fought to have women included in clinical trials and medical research at the National Institutes of Health. She doubled NIH's funding for important health research. Mikulski wrote the law requiring federal standards for mammograms, and she backed legislation to help uninsured women get screenings and treatment for breast and cervical cancer. Senator Mikulski is an original cosponsor of the Leave All Blades Behind Act (S. 2083). This bill would reverse the decision by TSA to allow weapons back onto our airplanes.
When management at Northwest said they wanted to outsource some of our flying partners jobs to cheaper foreign nationals, AFA-CWA took the lead in defending all Flight Attendant jobs from being outsourced. Senator Mikulski joined 12 other senators in sending a letter to Northwest management saying NO to Flight Attendant outsourcing!
Senator Mikulski recently voted for an AFA supported amendment that would prohibit the White House from changing the rules that would allow for foreign investors to come in and run U.S. airlines.
AFA-CWA members must pool their resources to help elect more members to the U.S. Congress like Barbara Mikulski - champions we can count on.
