Unfortunately, we are STILL focusing on FMLA for flight crews.
Although we were able to get H.R. 2744 through the House of Representatives, we
are now fighting to get this through the Senate. We have less than three weeks
to do so. The Senate bill is S.2059. We need everyone to call DAILY. If we fail
to get three more republicans to co-sponsor the bill, we will be forced to fight
the fight again after the elections. We will then start again with the house.
I have been asked many questions about why we
are forcing the issue and to be honest, the company does realize that we are
full-time employees and there by offer their version, Personal Care Leave (PCL).
The problem is, it is strictly contractual. We can; have; and will be denied the
rights that your fellow airline employees enjoy under the law, which is based on
the proverbial 40-hour week. Mechanics, ticket agents, and baggage handlers are
all covered by the law. Our company cannot bargain their leave because it is the
law.
One more thing - anyone can make these daily
calls. You do not have to be a crewmember. Family and friends can make the call
as well. Here is what to say and who to call.
"Hello. My name is.. I am a
resident and a voter in the state of....I would like Senator.... to co-sponsor
S. 2059, The Flight Crew Technical Corrections Act to Family Medical leave."
