- COMPANY AND AFA PROPOSALS
COMPANY AND AFA PROPOSALS
The Company proposal dated July 27, 2004 and the AFA Term Sheet dated August 12, 2004 have been mailed to your homes. These initial proposals have been posted on the MEC web site since August 12. The MEC decided to have them mailed to members to ensure wider availability. Due to the relocation of the AFA International offices the mailing was delayed for over a week. You should have now received the mailing.
The Company presented AFA with a counter proposal to our original Term Sheet on August 18. The MEC met with the negotiating committee on August 19 and 20 to begin drafting AFA's counter to that proposal. As I stated in previous E-Lines this counter includes a complete reserve system proposal and other additions to our original Term Sheet.
The committee has been waiting for the Company to provide our analysts with detailed cost figures for items in both proposals. The Company has promised this information but has been slow to actually provide it. Until that information is provided it is not possible for the committee to present anything to the Company. This delay by the Company seems at odds with their goal of getting agreements in place by September.
In any case, the MEC will post both proposals on the Web Site when we are able to present our counter. Therefore the proposals you received in the mail are outdated. Much has changed in the Company's proposal and our counter has been fully developed.
The decision was made by the MEC to keep you informed of the negotiation process for a reason. When the time comes for you to vote on a proposal you will know how it was developed. Please remember, these are proposals and not "tentative agreement", and should be viewed as such.
