STRIKE BALLOT RESULTS/NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE

Flight Attendants at ALL bases voted overwhelmingly to authorize CHAOS should the Bankruptcy Court abrogate our contract. Your vote has sent a message to the Company and the Court that “enough is enough”.  The message to our Company is that we are willing to negotiate but not willing to stand by and let our agreement by terminated without consequence.  Your decision was a tough but necessary one to make. Our industry is going through unprecedented change and we intend to be a constructive part of that change. We do not intend to be cast aside as “debt” through litigation. Unlike lease payments or fuel bills this membership has a life, a soul and now a voice. I commend ALL those who voted in this process no matter how you cast your ballot.

The ballot results have not changed the commitment this MEC and negotiating committee have in reaching an agreement with the Company. The committee has been meeting almost continuously with the Company for the last ten days in an attempt to find a consensus. There has been agreement on some items and there remains work to be done on others. The MEC and the committee will be holding meetings this Wednesday and Thursday in Washington. Negotiations will be ongoing between the Company and the committee during the meetings with the hope of reaching an agreement that can be reviewed by the MEC and sent out for ratification. We will examine every issue and continue our diligence in insuring that you are represented to the best of our abilities.

As I have said in the past this ballot was about one thing; the possible abrogation of our current agreement. These negotiations are concessionary in nature but we do not intend to concede to the excessive demands of the Company. Our job is to bring the best possible agreement to you for your consideration. We will continue to work as hard as we can for you.  We are not on strike at this time and are continuing to do our job as well as we can. I know you will be doing the same.

Thank you,
