Information to
Retirees, Inactive Employees and Survivors
Dear
Council 89 Members,
We’ve had some calls lately regarding the following
circumstances and wanted to issue a few reminders:
TWOP vs. 'Give Up'
Recently a flight attendant gave up (not TWOP) her
week-end trip that originated on a Saturday. She then
tried to pick up a trip on the ETB. Here was the problem:
the AIL was restricted for TWOP but not for ‘give up’ so
she was still required to AIL a trip for Sunday. Please
remember that there is a difference between TWOP and ‘give
up’ (FAS may let you ‘give up’ a trip because they know
that you still have to cover a weekend AIL trip from
company time which doesn’t impact the coverage as much as
a TWOP would). If you want to drop your trip for TWOP you
must actually specify this when you go on the bid sheet.
When TWOP was first created the schedulers may have asked
you if you wanted to TWOP or give up but now that we’ve
had this option for more than a year they assume that you
know the difference and won’t always ask. Make sure the
scheduler who takes your call clearly knows your list of
preferences.
FAA Certification Card
We’ve been told that a flight attendant was asked to
present her FAA Certification Card at a Caribbean station
after she went inside the airport and was trying to get
back on board the aircraft. You are not required to carry
your FAA Certification card with you, but you should be
aware of each stations requirement for re-boarding the
aircraft if you intend to go inside the airport at an
international station.
UAS Door
We have been informed that the UAS door works for both the
old and new ID’s. If you have a problem using the door
please let In-flight Services know.
NTI Rest
Section 12.3.c. contains a chart showing the rest
provisions for NTI trips. If you have two NTI one day
trips in a row you must have 11:00 rest block to block in
between your trips. Please let us know if you are being
told differently by FAS.
Early Release into OFF Days
We are getting a lot of calls about this situation. Most
of them go like this: 'Scheduling let so-and-so have an
early release and when I asked they said 'call us back
later' or 'no we can’t release anymore today'. The short
explanation for this is that scheduling may have plenty of
reserves for CLT but because of an evolving system problem
are told to stop releasing for a few hours or for the rest
of the day. If you feel that they are releasing people
arbitrarily give us a call and we will try to find out the
reason you were not released when coverage seemed
adequate.
