Election of MEC officers requires the majority of votes cast by the MEC, which is made up of the 6 local presidents. MEC elections allow each local President to cast one vote for each position. The election for MEC President was a curious event with four candidates, Teddy Xidas, Leslie Miller, Joe Guilot and the incumbent Perry Hayes receiving 3, 1, 1, and 1 vote respectively on the first ballot. With no clear majority a runoff was required.  After vote switching, backroom politicking and deal making the third ballot resulted in a runoff between Ms. Xidas and the unknown candidate, Joe Guilot. Teddy Xidas won the fourth ballot 4 to 0. Since I could not support Ms. Xidas or Mr. Guilot, who in my opinion was being used to eliminate the other candidates, I decided to abstain my vote. Council 41 (DCA) represented by LEC President, Bob Kenia, also abstained. Immediately after the vote, Council 41 moved to recall Ms. Xidas and I seconded the motion. A recall motion allows each president to cast votes for or against the motion according to the number of members in his/her base. I cast ALL 1615 votes FOR the motion to recall as did Bob Kenia of Council 41. The motion failed as the other four council presidents voted AGAINST the motion to recall.

As MEC president elect, Ms. Xidas will be invited to attend further negotiating session with the Company and other meetings until her term begins next year. Ms. Xidas intends to remain the PIT LEC President while serving as MEC President. Upon assuming the role of President, Ms. Xidas is required to be responsible to the MEC, the AFA Constitution and Bylaws and the membership. I will hold her responsible and accountable for all requirements for as long as she holds the office. As President of the CLT Council I will continue to provide you with the best representation possible on the MEC.

Sometimes democracy can be messy, but it is our system and I will live by the results. After the recent general election a large number of people were disappointed and left in disbelief. While hard for those on the losing side, I don't think many will leave the country but will instead continue their effort for change.

The MEC will continue the meeting today and Thursday with discussion on the negotiations with the Company, briefings by our bankruptcy counsel and other MEC business. I will update you on Friday regarding the remainder of the meeting.

Thank you,

Mike Flores
