North Carolina Senator Elizabeth
Dole and Representative Sue Myrick, from North
Carolina's 9th Congressional District, have yet to
support extending Family and Medical Leave Act
(FMLA) benefits to all flight attendants. As a
constituent of Senator Dole and Representative
Myrick, we need your help to contact and urge them
to support the Airline Flight Crew Family and
Medical Leave Act.
You may have already sent an e-mail or letter to
Senator Dole and Congresswoman Myrick and we
appreciate your support, however, it's time for your
voice to be heard... literally! Placing a phone call
to their offices is the best way get them to
co-sponsor our legislation.
The Family and Medical Leave Act was intended to
provide all Flight Attendants with the ability to
take time off from work to take care of family
members facing serious illness. Unfortunately,
corporate executives and their allies in congress
have short-changed many of our flying partners,
denying them the protections of FMLA. The law,
signed by President Clinton has been a lifeline for
working families, protecting their jobs while they
attend to family priorities.
To ensure that all Flight Attendants are covered by
FMLA, AFA-CWA worked with our friends in Congress to
draft and introduce The Airline Flight Crew Family
and Medical Leave Act. Members of Congress are
signing on to our bill, with over 118 cosponsors so
far. Our FMLA legislation is a bi-partisan bill,
attracting support from both Democrats and
Republicans.
While our momentum is gaining for our legislation,
AFA-CWA government affairs activists have met with
many members of the House and Senate who have made
it clear that, in order to sign on, they need to
hear from their constituents - you!
E-mail campaigns and traditional letter writing
campaigns are effective but only up to a certain
point. Calling Senator Dole and Congressman Myrick's
offices, identifying yourself as a constituent and
asking that they co-sponsor the Airline Flight Crew
Family and Medical Leave Act is the most effective
way to earn their support.
Below is the contact information for Senator Dole
