Is it time to renew you passport? Before you head over to the Tip O'Neill Federal Building here's some new information which may save you a wasted trip. Since June, 2000 the Boston Passport Agency renews passports by appointment only. You may schedule an appointment from a touch tone phone, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling: (617) 878-0900.Only customers who are traveling within 14 calendar days (2 weeks) or those who require extra time to apply for visas, are allowed to schedule an appointment. Those traveling in more than 2 weeks must apply for their passport through their local passport acceptance facility, including post offices and court houses through the region.

Customers may ask for assistance in locating a passport acceptance facility in their area or to check the status of their passport application by calling the National Passport Information Center (NPIC) at 1-900-225-5674 (fee charged) or 1-888-362-8668 by using a major credit card.
