Dear Members,
FILLER DAY (s)
AWARD / DECEMBER
Anyone who submitted a filler day bid for December, please
double check to see if your bid is correct. The company had a
problem with the bid process and some f/as have discovered
(after investigating) that they should have held days in their
bid. You can check the denial list on the HUB and if you have
questions, should you need to contact Peter Hobson
Garcia/vacation - direct at 703-872-2886 or the 1-800-327-0117
(follow the prompts) to make any adjustments, have your
confirmation sheet handy..
TRIP IMPROVING/HOLIDAY TRIP
At this time of year many primary/secondary line holders ask if
they can trip improve off of a holiday trip. The answer is
YES. Just because Thanksgiving day/ December 24 / 25 /31/
January 1 are 'protected holidays' pursuant to SEC 9- B. e. does
not mean you cannot trip improve off of them.
BLOCK 8009 DECEMBER
Block 8009/December contained a couple of trip combinations that
were being questioned for the rest legalities between these
combinations.
Example: DEC 08 TRIP 06001 - (12:07 crew rest) - DEC 09 TRIP
06047 and DEC 22 TRIP 06001 - (12:07 crew rest) - DEC 23 TRIP
06033
Chip Mayer/Manager of Crew Planning, Ernie Wheeland/Chairman of
the Block Building Committee, Bill Scott/Crew Planning/ John
Petronzi/Manager of Crew Scheduling were contacted to review
these combinations. All advised that the combinations were legal
and all necessary legality checks were done prior to and after
the lines were published. In addition to these legality checks,
at the request of AFA, Chip Mayer sent these combinations to Ron
Thomas the Attaché between the FAA and US Airways. The following
is his response.
"..... the trips are legal together. With an augmented
crew there are no special [FAR] rest requirements after the
first trip. The second trip is domestic and falls under 121.471.
Looking back at the rest requirement to begin the second trip
the crew will have at least 9 hours of rest and will receive at
least 12 hours no later than 24 hours after the commencement of
the reduced rest period....." Ron
We will not be seeing combinations like these in future blocks.
SECTION 30 / reminders
Sec 30 E. Cabin Cleaning Duties /Flight Attendant Agreement -
still applies - specifically the exceptions E. e. - or
immediately following any segment that originates or terminates
in an airport west of Kansas City. F/as have advised they have
experienced confused agents in PHX and other west stations as
they believe f/as should clean/tidy - ( we do not clean/tidy ) -
If asked to clean/tidy or asked why we do not, kindly remind the
agents of this language. If they have further questions or
concerns, have them contact Sherri Shamblin/VP of In-flight.
Please review this Section (30) E. in the F/A Agreement, there
are exceptions to flight attendants cleaning/tidying. - Just a
side note: at any station if you are asked to 'open the aircraft
door' so that a caterer/cleaner can empty the trash - sorry, we
do not open the doors - the caterers/cleaners do. PHX and LAS
caterers/cleaners have been notified again that f/as are not
responsible for opening a/c doors so that trash can be emptied.
Sec 30 F Cabin Jump seats/Flight Attendant Agreement - Please
review this language. THE ONLY FLIGHT ATTENDANTS ALLOWED ON OUR
JUMP SEATS ARE USA EAST AND USA WEST F/AS (f/as on our seniority
list) - NO ONE ELSE IS ALLOWED ON OUR JUMP SEATS (East Metal).
Cabin reciprocal agreements are for empty CABIN seats ONLY.
Check the HUB for cabin seat reciprocal agreement details or the
binder in the crew room/BOS.
TOYS for TOTS
If you are considering dropping off a toy in In-Flight for the
Toys for Tots program, which this year is called, the Angel
Tree, and it is run by the Salvation Army, please remain
cognizant of the latest recalled toys made in China. If
interested in more details visit the BOS In-Flight department.
December 9th is the deadline.
TAKE YOUR CONTRACT FOR A RIDE
Need I say more... keep it packed. This is the time of year when
craziness happens and having it at your fingertips may pay off.
SEPARATION PACKAGE
There is still time but the numbers right now are low - gee, I
wonder why? Maybe because a f/a with 20 years of service and 44
years old will not get any travel? Or is it the $20,000? Or in
reality, is it the $12,000 or maybe $14,000 after taxes? The
company did not need to reduce the staffing numbers and
depending on the number of flight attendants that may take this
separation package, when all is said and done, the company may
need to recall.
On behalf of the Council 69 Officers and Representatives, have a
Happy Thanksgiving. Be Safe.
Thank you,
