NORTHWEST FLIGHT ATTENDANTS REACH OUT FOR REPRESENTATION
Washington, DC - The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA-CWA) announced today their organizing campaign to represent Northwest Airlines flight attendants.
Recently a unified coalition of Northwest flight attendants approached AFA-CWA to request that AFA conduct an organizing drive at their carrier. Currently the Professional Flight Attendants Association
(PFAA), an independent organization, represents the Northwest flight attendants.
"PFAA has isolated itself from the American labor movement, in turn denying Northwest flight attendants the union experience and labor affiliations necessary to protect our rights," said David
Barro-West, a veteran Northwest flight attendant. "AFA has committed to help bring our members together so we can wield the true strength of all Northwest flight attendants united together."
AFA-CWA is in the process of sending union authorization cards to the over 9,600 Northwest flight attendants for their signature should they want AFA representation. In order for an official election to be held, AFA-CWA must have 50 percent plus one of Northwest flight attendant signatures on the authorization cards which will be verified by the National Mediation Board.
"We must do everything we can to protect all flight attendants," said Patricia Friend, AFA-CWA International President. "A growing number of flight attendants at Northwest are frightened for their future and are desperately seeking the guidance and sanctuary of AFA-CWA."

AFA-CWA LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN TO ORGANIZE NORTHWEST FLIGHT ATTENDANTS
Washington, DC -Northwest flight attendants recently approached the world's largest flight attendant union seeking a seasoned voice to help them face the uncertainties that lie ahead. Today, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA-CWA) announced their campaign to organize Northwest Airlines flight attendants.
"In just the few short hours since we have launched our campaign, the response have been overwhelming," said Patricia Friend, AFA-CWA International President. "We are seeing an unprecedented number of flight attendant leaders from traditionally different factions at Northwest come together because they feel that AFA will best represent their interests."
The call for new representation was in part fueled by Northwest management's proposal to outsource flight attendant positions on all international flights and flights carrying 100 passengers or less.
"AFA has vast experience and has been extremely successful in dealing with proposals that threaten the positions of flight attendants," said Friend. "This is a fight that we all must wage. If Northwest is successful in their demands, it will be devastating for everyone."

Northwest flight attendants are current represented by the Professional Flight Attendants Association
(PFAA).
"PFAA failed to build a strategic contract plan which garners the trust, involvement, and mobilization of our flight attendants," said Paul Dire, a veteran Northwest flight attendant. "We need a strong union like AFA with a proven track record of protecting flight attendant careers."

AFA-CWA PREPARED TO HELP NORTHWEST FLIGHT ATTENDANTS THROUGH BANKRUPTCY
Washington, DC -Northwest flight attendants face uncertain times in light of their employer's recent bankruptcy filing but, with strong representation they will be able to overcome the possible reduction in pay and work force that lie ahead. Yesterday, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA-CWA) launched a campaign for the right to represent Northwest's 9,600 flight attendants.
"AFA is the only flight attendant union that has led two of the largest airlines through bankruptcy," said Patricia Friend, AFA-CWA International President. "Through our creative and successful negotiations, we have been able to protect our flight attendants from massive proposed cuts."
AFA-CWA currently represents flight attendants at United Airlines and US Airways.
"With the recent bankruptcy filing, it is important that our voice has the strength and experience needed to protect our careers; and AFA-CWA is that voice," said Jaime Drain, a veteran Northwest flight attendant.
The AFA-CWA authorization campaign comes at a critical time as Northwest begins its bankruptcy proceedings. Recently, the company's management proposed to outsource flight attendant positions on all international flights and flights carrying 100 passengers or less. This measure would result in a 57 percent loss of jobs.
"AFA has vast experience and has been extremely successful in dealing with proposals that threaten the positions of flight attendants," said Friend. "This is a fight that we all must wage. If Northwest is successful in their demands, it will be devastating for everyone."
