Dear Members,

AWA/USA PHX Meeting

The AFA MEC USAirways met with Doug Parker at the Tempe, Arizona, America West facility along with the AFA MEC America West. Discussions were informal as anticipated. One mention was that the Shuttle Operation will be an important aspect of the company moving forward.

Just a note: America West is still in Section 6 negotiations.
USAirways and America West merger teams met last week and information pertaining to this meeting is available via the MEC E-line.

Change in Shuttle Flying/November

The MEC was offered a set of purposed Shuttle trip pairings, which are ready for implementation in November 2005. These pairings are the result of a cross-departmental effort and were made possible by some changes in process. Historically, crews for more than two flight segments have not been scheduled prior to 06:00. After study and experimentation, determination was made to "lift" this rule for a single (BOS) trip which will allow the remainder of these shuttle trips to fall into place. This exception is non-precedent setting and applies to this solution only. No other trips in any other domicile or on any other equipment will be affected by this parameter change, as it will apply to only the Shuttle solution.

Some of the goals for Shuttle trips in November are to reduce/eliminate - aircraft changes from 20 to - (1), hotel rooms (rons) from 40 to - (0), crew 'sit around' times 1< 2 hours from 13 to (1), crew 'sit around' times 3<4 hours from 7 to (0), number of deadhead segments from 4 to (0). Increase pay hours per Duty period previous 4:47 to 5:28, block hours per Duty period previous 4:42 to 5:01. Average duty day from 9:40 to 8:54. Total deadhead hours from 5:41 to 0.

LGA and DCA shuttle trips are also affected by these changes. We have no knowledge at this time of how these trips will be placed in the November lines.

Catcrew Screens

Seniority/line award screen will be implemented within the next couple of days. We have been advised that the screen will be available on option 40.

Mollie McCarthy, one of the MEC implementation committee representatives, has met with EDS to confirm requirements for the reserve quick call screen and EDS is continuing to work on this request. No date has been provided.

Contract Printing

The company and the implementation team are working to wrap up the written contract in order to go to print. A print date is yet to be determined but consideration of making it available via the HUB in the interim is under discussion.

Just a reminder - VACATION 2006

2006 Vacation bidding has opened. Enter bids in Catcrew option 14, review bids and print from Catcrew option 13

Just a reminder - SAP

When posting your SAP bids, please check in Unit 1/bottom of page to see if you have a month to month legality issue as this MUST be resolved in order for your bid to be successful. A suggestion: make a copy of Unit 1 as well as option 38/all bids for your records.

VFLR II

VFLR II awards are out totaling 237 of which 7 flight attendants were based in BOS. The company, due to their offering of 300 slots are considering, the former MEC President's request to allow the short fall be taken by DEC VFLR I f/as. It would be offered by seniority and currently Crew Scheduling is running their staffing model. After review, we will be notified.
