Dear Members,
Category I
Nomination/Elections
In accordance with Article VIII of the Constitution &
Bylaws, all Local Councils in the Election Category I (69 BOS
being one of them) must nominate and elect officers for the term
beginning January 1, 2008 and ending December 31, 2010 (Three
year term). Article IX of the Constitution & Bylaws and Union
voting Procedures (Section IX of the Policy Manual) shall govern
nominations and elections.
If you go to www.afanet.org / search Constitution & Bylaws you
may review the above mentioned articles. (added information by
L.C.)
All nominations will be completed by secret ballot.
Constitutionally, nomination ballots must be mailed no later
than one hundred and fifty (150) days 8/4/07) before the start
of the term of office. The nomination ballot for the Councils in
Category I (BOS) will be mailed during the months of July and
August 2007.
A schedule of mailing, postmark and a count date is posted on
the AFA Board in the BOS crew room along with an illustration of
the nomination process. - (added information by L.C.)
All active members with good addresses regardless of dues
standing, as well as apprentice members who will be off
probation on or before the count date will be mailed a ballot.
Transmittal envelopes for members in bad standing at the time of
the mail date are marked "VERIFY STANDING ON COUNT DATE". If the
member has paid all delinquent dues prior to the count date, the
ballot will be counted. Members must pay all outstanding dues in
a separate envelope.
The nomination ballots should be returned to the International
Office on or before the postmark date. The ballots will be
tallied and certified at the International Office, under
supervision of the Ballot Certification Committee. It is
necessary that each person wishing to be nominated and appear on
the election ballot sign a Commitment-to-Serve Statement which
will be included in the nomination mailing as a separate card to
be sent back with the ballot.
All nominees who receive at least two (2) nominating votes and
who have indicated their willingness to serve will be placed on
the official Local Council election ballot. Each successfully
nominated candidate will receive a copy of the Local Union
Officer Election Handbook which covers our election process and
allowable campaign practices. If you wish to have campaign
literature mailed for you by the International Office, please
contact Larry Smoot, Administrator II-Membership Services
Department at 1-800-424-2401 EXT 562
Election ballots will follow in the same manner beginning the
first week in September 2007, to ensure completion of the
election procedure before January 1, 2008.
