Dear Members,
AFA Legislative Message:
2007 Transportation Day of Action
In May, transportation industry unions from across the country
will gather in Washington, DC to send the crucial message to
Washington and beyond that Enough is Enough! Together with
distinguished guest speakers, flight attendants will join their
colleagues and send a message to the world that the time for
change has come.
Even before the terrorists' attacks of September 11, 2001, our
nation's transportation sector had been under attack. Layoffs had
already started and contract negotiations were drawn out and
difficult. But in the last five years, transportation workers have
endured multiple bankruptcies, terminated pensions, corporate
takeaways, outsourcing of work to overseas facilities and
negotiations that proceeded at a snails pace under the Railway
Labor Act. Yet, America's elected leaders did nothing as this
critical segment of the workforce was hammered. We can change
this!
On May 17, thousands of transportation workers will descend upon
Washington, DC with a unified message that Enough is Enough. We
will not stand by and watch our lives tossed aside because of
corporate greed. We will send a strong message to the Congress,
the 2008 Presidential candidates, and the world that
transportation workers have been beaten and broken for too long;
we are rising up and taking over!
