  • ETB = Flight Attendant Time

  • AIL = Company Time

  • ETB Highlights

  • The Jumpseat & Weight Restricted/Capped Flights

Please remember that "company time" (obligation) is the greater of your monthly line award or post SAP line. Example: your awarded line is worth 82:00, you SAP down to 70:00, your obligation (company time) is still 82:00 because your awarded line is "greater than your post SAP" Example: your awarded line is worth 82:00 , you SAP up to 90:00, your obligation (company time) is now 90:00 because your post SAP is "greater" than your awarded line. You can ETB to pick up trips until the cows come home as long as you are legal. You can drop down to 50:00 only via the ETB or TWOP (drop a trip through scheduling with their consent, based on coverage) - this will also lessen your obligation (company time). Should you decide to TWOP, you may at a later, time during the month request from Scheduling to pick up time via the AIL. It will be up to Scheduling to make that determination.

The ETB will be available via the HUB or Catcrew. If you have internet service at home and do not have Catcrew, you may visit the ETB via the HUB and submit your drops/trades etc. The ETB is not seniority driven, it is first come first served. F/A trainers will be available in the crew room on April 13th and f/as can use the screens for practice purposes. ETB instruction pamphlets will be available to crewmembers at that time. The ETB will be "live" around the 23rd of April for May drops/trades etc. and will be continuous.

Once submitting a drop/trade you must check to see if it has been "picked up". If the trip has not been picked up by another f/a before 12:00 the day before the trip departs, you are still responsible for the trip. You can go on the AIL but remember if what you pick up is less than the trip you give up, you owe the company the difference because the AIL is company time. The pay cap (company time) on the 319/320/321 in BOS for May is 90:00. This is set by Rob Fuhr/Director of Crew Scheduling. This means a f/a cannot pick up anything on the AIL that brings them over 90:00 unless they have been grandfathered in at the higher option. The only way a f/a can go over 90:00 is to go on the ETB and pick up "flight attendant" time. You can still fly up to 90:00 considering your actual time thus increasing your pay time. Please remember, you can pick up trips off the ETB during your vacation.

No Split to Reach 50 Hours: Keep in mind that although the Company will allow you to go as low as 40 hours in some situations, your obligation will be no less than 50 hours. If you are at 40 hours due to ETB drops, you must come in with no less than 50 hours and such time must be picked up using the AIL. If you are at 40 hours and via the AIL cannot hold a 10 hour trip, the Company WILL NOT split a trip for you. Why? Because May's maximum is 90 hours - not 50 hours. If you are unable to get a trip worth 10 hours, you may have to fly a trip worth more time in order to meet the minimum of your obligation. If you fail to reach the minimum of 50 hours, you will be cited for low block.

TWOP: Dropping time via TWOP (Time Off Without Pay) will decrease your flying obligation in a given month. Therefore, if you got yourself to 50 hours via the ETB and the Scheduler approves a TWOP for 20 hours then coming in with 30 hours would be acceptable. If you have dropped below 50 hours as a result of ETB and subsequently drop a trip via TWOP, you must still make up the difference in the time between your pre-TWOP value and 50 hours. As an example: if you are at 40 hours due to ETB and you request and are granted a drop via TWOP of a trip worth 10 hours, you still must come in with 40 hours.

More Information regarding the ETB will be available as the month progresses. Please refer to future MEC E-Lines and CBS messages on this topic. Please take the time to review the Hours of Service section of the new F/A Agreement. Questions? Please contact your local officers.

Quick Reserves/Notes

Please remember, when scheduling calls and has a choice of trips, you have a choice of those trips even if coverage is short and they may have to come back to reassign, you still have a choice.

Please remember, your INV days are golden and it is the reserve f/as' OPTION to fly up to 23:59 on the first INV day in any period of inviolable (INV) days in order to complete the trip in which case that portion of the first inviolable (INV) day will not be restored. Please review - Reserve Time Balancing System - FAQ available on the HUB - User ID/password - type in the search box - scroll down the list

Please remember, LTO will be replaced with 5 hour ranges as of May 1 and within those ranges, trips will be given in seniority order. Review the new F/A Agreement.

Please remember, you too can pick up trips off the ETB, trade INV/OFF days via the ETB, must allow a minimum of ten (10) hours rest between the latest time the Reserve could be scheduled to be released in domicile and the scheduled report of the ETB requested trip.

Please remember, you have 15 minutes after scheduling calls/beeps you to call back if you wait too long, you will receive a NCT. Also note if there is a time discrepancy.

Please remember, Sec. 11-9 F. - Uninterrupted Domicile Rest / 2000 Agreement STILL EXISTS - especially review - #3 In the event a reserve flight attendant's uninterrupted rest period is involuntarily broken by a Crew Scheduler, he/she shall IMMEDIATELY commence a new eight hours and thirty minutes (8:30) of uninterrupted rest.

If a reserve is called and once at the airport discovers that the flight assigned has departed, the reserve is entitled to a "show no go". If this is not reflected in your pay summary after a day or so, CLAIM IT. Should scheduling release you to go home, you begin your 8:30 rest. ASK scheduling if you are released for rest to begin. If you are not released, please remember that your duty day began 1 hour before the original flight you were first assigned. Any time you speak to scheduling, GET THE SCHEDULER'S NAME AND WRITE DOWN THE TIME.

REMINDERS

Please remember, 30/7 did not go away. It is at the OPTION OF ANY F/A TO GO TO 35/7.

Please remember, crew substitution language did not go away. - 2000 F/A Agreement

Please remember, if a "live" leg is replaced with a deadhead due to mechanical/weather, you need to claim it on a PE80 as the computer program recognizes all deadheads at 50% pay, no credit. If you have uncertainties regarding any deadhead, not previously published in your trip, claim it on a PE80.

Please remember, when weekend trip improving be sure you do not set yourself up to not being able to pick up a trip due to exercising your option of not going over 30/7. Example: FRI/SAT/SUN trip / go on AIL to trip improve WED/THUR/FRI / you will be placed on the AIL for a trip originating on SAT, you may leave a list, if the only trip available is a 4/day and this brings you over 30/7, Rob Fuhr/Director of Crew Scheduling has advised you must complete the duty period through SUN and on MON will be allowed to split for 30/7. If initial trip was scheduled on both weekend days, unless you are allowed to drop, you must fulfill the weekend obligation of working on both days. It is similar to 'blue boxing', but with blue boxing you had an opportunity to fly on another day to meet your obligation, if you are scheduled to fly on SAT and SUN you must complete the duty periods on both days, again, unless you are allowed to drop.

PHL lack of cleaners/supplies

The issues brought forward to the LECP on the waiting/insufficient supplies/no cleaners showing up - Caribbean inbound flights/ west coast inbound flights, has been forwarded to the attention of the US Airways, VP of Operations, Al Crellin. Should you continue to experience deficiencies in PHL, please e-mail the information to LECP/BOS -Lcaramello@afauairways.org, also include the date, flight, names, circumstances, etc

The company is counting on the compassion of the Flight Attendant group to pick up the slack when cleaners do not show up and a delay is possible. Should you be feeling compassionate and decide to clean the cabin when it is a "listed cleaners' responsibility", please consider this volunteering. The company has to realize that if they do not get the proper staffing, scheduling and supplies together, flight attendants will not be counted on to pick up the slack. Using plastic bags and blankets to cover unidentified wetness or soiled seat cushions is not the answer, ask for replacement, if none, request the seat to be blocked and write it up.

Please stay in possession of your belongings when the responsibility to clean the cabin is not that of the flight attendants.

Weight Restricted and Capped Flights

Issue: There are non-compliance issues with cockpit and flight attendant jumpseat procedures in conjunction with contractual agreements.

Situation: The cockpit and flight attendant jumpseat riders are being denied boarding because of the misinterpretation of the verbiage on the Flight Status and Flight Data display.

Solution: The verbiage in both the Flight Status and Flight Data display are very exacting to eliminate confusion. The Flight Data display explains what jumpseat riders are permitted.

The verbiage is very specific about cockpit and Flight Attendant jumpseat categories.

  • INCLUDES ANY X RIDERS (Flight Attendant jumpseat)

  • ONLY P AND A1 W RIDERS (Cockpit jumpseat)

  • All space positive categories (P1 through P7) and space available category A1 are included in the maximum passenger count. They are never to be denied boarding.

  • All Flight Attendant jumpseat riders are included in the maximum passenger count. They are never to be denied boarding.

  • All other cockpit jumpseat categories are on a space available basis.
