John Walsh/Vice President/Council/69 will be stepping down from his position

John Walsh/VP/BOS, after serious thought and discussions has advised the BOS Officers and Representatives that he will be stepping down as BOS/LEC Vice President effective March 31, 2005. We would like to thank him for even the short time he has served as Vice President. He is still on voluntary furlough but is giving serious consideration to retiring. Being on voluntary furlough and LEC Vice President has presented challenges as even his appearance in the crew room/in-flight requires a stop at the ticket counter to receive a boarding pass and an escort from In-flight or another officer. A Flight Attendant on voluntary furlough is required to turn in their ID at commencement of the leave. We wish him the best in all his future endeavors and thank him for his attention to the BOS members. We will miss him.

The AFA Constitution and By-Laws, Article III, page 14, #5 Council Officer Vacancies, #2 states: When the office of Vice President becomes vacant, the Secretary shall act as Vice President and Secretary for the remainder of the unexpired term. #4 At the option of the remaining Officers, an election for any vacant office may be requested from the International Office.

Karen Delutis/LEC Secretary will step into the Vice President position and thus become LEC/SEC/VP. After discussions regarding this added responsibility, she is fully prepared to fulfill the needs of the members of Council/69. Communication will remain fluid between officers as well as the local representatives and the membership. Our goals of providing assistance, availability and educating the membership on the current language are paramount moving forward.

The Local Representatives, Sherri Baker/Reserve, Paul Foran/Crew Accommodations, although transferring to PHL in May until September but continues to receive BOS/OF310s and assist the MEC Crew Accommodations Chair and Joe Cybulski/Safety/Health offer added assistance in providing information regarding any concerns/deficiencies members experience. Communication and availability are key components that we will continue to strive for during our incumbency.

The cost for a Local election in these circumstances is the responsibility of the Local Council affected. The amounts provided by the AFA International Office are between $1,800.00 and $2,100.00 for the entire process/nomination/mailings/ballots. The local Council/69 monthly budget is approximately $1,100.00 per month. After careful consideration of this situation between the current officers and the departing officer, we agreed that due to the size of the council, approximately 195 active members, two active Officers will be capable of maintaining communication, provide our availability and offer assistance in all matters. Reserve Representative, Sherri Baker has already exhibited great communication skills in bringing forth reserves issues. We do welcome any commentary regarding this decision.
