Dear Members,

LEAVE ALL BLADES BEHIND CAMPAIGN

BOS Council/69 Officers are looking for volunteers to participate in leafleting at Terminal B USAirways on January 30th. Even if you can spare as little as 30 minutes, please contact myself or Karen Delutis. Obtaining a permit for leafleting at Terminal B/USAirways is in progress and scheduled times will be forthcoming. Information surrounding this campaign is below.

January 30, 2006 has been targeted for the Leave All Blades Behind National Day of Action to get this message to the traveling public. The campaign is part of the continuous effort to reverse the TSA's decision to remove certain items such as scissors with 4 inch blades or less, screw drivers, pliers, wrenches, etc from the Prohibited Items List. AFA-CWA has consistently opposed this policy reversal and has made our case in the media and in the Halls of Congress.

Success has been made in having legislation introduced in the House and Senate (HR 4452 and S. 2083) to reverse this decision and by law freeze the prohibited items list, as it existed prior to this reversal, in place. The Legislation is listed below.

Leave All Blades Behind Act (Introduced in House)

HR 4452 IH

109th CONGRESS
1st Session
H. R. 4452

To prohibit the Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security (Transportation Security Administration) from removing any item from the current list of items prohibited from being carried aboard a passenger aircraft.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
December 7, 2005

Mr. CROWLEY (for himself, Mr. MARKEY, Mr. MCDERMOTT, and Mr. PALLONE) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Homeland Security

A BILL

To prohibit the Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security (Transportation Security Administration) from removing any item from the current list of items prohibited from being carried aboard a passenger aircraft.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the `Leave All Blades Behind Act'.

SEC. 2. PROHIBITED ITEMS LIST.

The Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security (Transportation Security Administration) shall not modify the list of items prohibited from being carried aboard a passenger aircraft operated by an air carrier or foreign air carrier in air transportation or intrastate air transportation set forth in section 1540 of title 49, Code of Federal Regulations, so as to permit any item contained on the list as of December 1, 2005, to be carried aboard a passenger aircraft.

To prohibit the Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security (Transportation Security Administration) from removing any item from the current list of items prohibited from being carried... (Introduced in Senate)

S 2083 IS

109th CONGRESS
1st Session
S. 2083

To prohibit the Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security (Transportation Security Administration) from removing any item from the current list of items prohibited from being carried aboard a passenger aircraft.

IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES
December 12, 2005

Mrs. CLINTON (for herself and Mr. SCHUMER) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation

A BILL

To prohibit the Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security (Transportation Security Administration) from removing any item from the current list of items prohibited from being carried aboard a passenger aircraft.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1.

This legislation was not passed before Congress left for the year (05) and they will not be returning again until late January. In order for us to get Congress to force the TSA to reverse this policy once they return to session, we need to keep this issue in the minds of the public, our members, politicians and in the media so that it does not become "old news".

Please join and participate in this effort. Additional information will be available shortly.
